Walk Between The Villages Of The Cinque Terre, Italy

This morning we left the sanctuary of the iconic Grand Hotel Miramare in Santa Margherita on the Italian Riviera, and drove to Monterosso.  Travelling by car high up on the hilltops was a great way to enjoy the views across the ocean and explore the often-unseen countryside inland from the coast.  After encountering several cyclists on their Sunday rides, we arrived in Monterosso which was a hive of activity as the locals enjoyed the first of the Spring sunshine.  Soaking up the atmosphere, we enjoyed the buzz of the Italians making the most of their long weekend before heading off to Vernazza, the tiniest of the five villages. We enjoyed a delicious meal of squid ink to fuel up for the walk along the famous Cinque Terre Trail.  It was wonderful to escape the crowds, walk with the Mediterranean sunshine on our faces and drink in the spectacular views.  We arrived into Corniglia after the 6km walk and had a well-earned Aperol spritz and traditional pizza whilst watching the sunset.  This wasn’t my first time to Cinque Terre, but was a reminder of just how beautifully unique this area is and a place that you can enjoy time and time again.
