Cycling Through Bali’s Lush Green Surrounds
It was an early pick up from the hotel as we headed north from Kuta towards Ubud and the mountainous heart of Bali. After a 2-hour long drive, we arrived at our first stop being the lookout at Kintamani, where we could see a sprawling landscape of volcanic peaks. One of these was Mt Agung, one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia. It was quite an impressive panorama with the towering peaks, the huge Lake Batur below and nearby fields of charred land, evidence of the recent lava flows.
A quick photo stop before heading to the base where we were to collect our bicycles and helmets.
Not having been bike riding for a while, I was really looking forward to it.
We headed off in a group of nine, including our guide, and rode through the countryside. We rode through large rice paddy fields, passing through small villages and even into some heavily wooded rainforests. It was all downhill, which for a slightly unfit person like me was a blessing. The feeling of the warm breeze as we sped down the open roads was invigorating to say the least.
The journey ended at a small local café with a tasty lunch with local delicacies made up of rice dishes & curries. Yum! A great day and a fun way to see a little of the lush green Balinese countryside.
