Escape the Everyday in An Overwater Bungalow in The Maldives
We arrived into Male Airport and were greeted by our host who expertly navigated us through the airport to the marina where our resort boat was waiting. Our island, Gili Lankanfushi is the closest atoll to the mainland and only 20 minutes by speedboat. My immediate thought was that the ocean views and colour of the water was even more stunning than the travel brochures reveal! The Maldives are a stunning mix of white sand, small islands, ocean reefs, transparent water and lush vegetation.
Instantly we felt relaxed and in holiday mode, our shoes placed in keepsafe bags, a cool towel to freshen up and a delightful fruit cocktail in hand, we sped across the crystal clear waters to our home for the following 4 nights, an overwater bungalow at Gili Lankanfushi. I’ve always dreamt of this experience and it exceeded my expectations.
The days are really easy here and the perfect way to relax; the sound of the water underneath, endless views and sunshine are the perfect recipe. Our overwater bungalow is rustic but luxurious, featuring a separate bedroom, glass bottom bathroom, tub with a view and outdoor deck perfect for reading a book and soaking up the sun.
The island is small and we could snorkel, walk or ride on our cane pushbikes around the island in 20 minutes. Snorkelling from your doorstep to see the brilliant array of marine life and ending the day strolling barefoot to enjoy sunset dinner on the beach – who could ask for more?
