Local Living: The Machiya Hotel Kyoto, Japan
Kyoto, the old capital of Japan. Full of history, mesmerizing temples and ancient gardens together with a buzzing nightlife. A city of contrasts. This city needs time to linger, so with this in mind we found the ideal accommodation, Machiya Hotel which we pre-booked for 6 nights.
The place was well located; 10 minutes’ walk to Kyoto station, all well explained in our documents. The hotel is a traditional wooden town house, given a spacious makeover to include all the modern amenities, with a kitchen, washing machine and 2 bathrooms.
After an extensive tour of old Kyoto, it was great to come back to our Japanese home to relax with all this space and privacy.
There is much to do in Kyoto including the magnificent railway museum nearby and the bamboo grove a quick local train ride away. Kyoto is also only half an hour from Osaka and Nara, while Hiroshima and Tokyo are only a couple of hours on very fast trains.
Instead of moving from city to city, why not base yourself in a Kyoto Machiya property and live like a local?
