London 1982 I had arrived on the one-way ticket to the UK I had bought In Australia 6 months ago on the start of my journey of discovery. Over the following ten years I lived and travelled around the UK, Europe, and Asia. It increased my desire to become a travel agent ten years later when I began my new career. Since then I have worked in a range of roles over 30 years including, travel designer, team leader, airline coordinator and assistant sales manager.
I have always loved looking at atlases and globes dreaming of one day visiting those faraway places I was obsessed with. On my big overseas journey, it all became real. In my early twenties I spent the precious money I had saved on a one-way ticket and all my dreams came true. With my trusty Let’s Go book, backpack, youth hostel membership and Eurail pass, I was off to discover the world. The more countries I visited the braver I got, and each time I was supposed to book my ticket home, I’d choose a new adventure instead, eventually heading off to the Eastern Bloc, which opened my eyes to a whole new way of life. I’ve never lost that feeling and still have that same excitement when arriving somewhere new, although I’ve now replaced the backpack with a suitcase.
EWT partners with groups and organisations that strive to make a difference to people’s lives. I first met the dedicated folk from Yatra over 10 years ago and since then we have been looking after their personal and business trips. I was immediately impressed by their beliefs and enthusiasm in the work they do to change lives of the less fortunate children of India. Each year Yatra host a fund-raising Gala Dinner which members of our team are honoured to attend and will continue to support.
Book a private guided walking or cycling tour of the new destinations you visit. Organize this in advance with a reputable English speaking company that will take you beyond the norm. Choose a specific theme that interests you, perhaps food, street art, immigration, music or architecture.
